but a whimper.
Slowly, AM DX is giving way to the hash of 'hi-fi' spread.
Once upon a time, the major problem for DX'ers was the selectivity of their receivers. Crystal radio gave way to 'jennies' which in turn ushered in the super-regens and, eventually, multiple-conversion rigs. It became easier and easier to tune out the local 50 KW 'blowtorches'. Score one for technology.
But then along came the drive by the broadcasters for signal 'quality'. Bandwidth increased. Strong hash appeared, spreading to frequencies on both sides of the assigned 'blowtorch' frequencies.
And DX became impossible on those frequencies. Technology had no balm to cure the rash of hash.
A delightful hobby grows weak. No cure appears likely. _________________ "And gladly would he learn, and gladly teach." [Chaucer] |
